What is digital safety?

Digital safety means making informed choices about what you share, who you interact with and where you seek support online. It includes relationships and privacy, as well as the devices you use.

Pause before sharing

Before posting a photo, check what it reveals and whether everyone pictured is comfortable with it. A school badge, address label or visible location may reveal more than intended.

Practise with a fictional example

A class group wants to post a celebration photo. One student does not want to appear. A respectful response is to choose another photo or leave that student out of the shared version. Popularity does not remove someone’s right to say no.

Make safety a shared habit

Adults can model thoughtful posting, discuss privacy settings and keep devices updated. Young people should have a trusted person to ask when an interaction feels confusing.

Where should we start?

Choose one account and review who can see posts and make contact. Then use our family online safety guide to start a conversation.
